ESPN’s Holly Rowe got emotional on Tuesday night.
The longtime women’s basketball reporter took a video of herself crying inside of the Toronto Tempo vs. Indiana Fever game. Rowe said that it was incredible to see what Canada has built for women’s basketball. There was a packed, sold-out crowd to watch Tuesday night’s game.
Indiana topped Toronto, 101-95, to extend their winning streak to five games. The Fever are now 24-12 on the year.
But some are accusing Rowe of “snubbing” Clark in her video, as she didn’t mention the Indiana Fever star by name. While Toronto has had some big crowds this season, a lot of the fans in attendance on Tuesday night were there to see the former No. 1 overall WNBA Draft pick.
Fans accuse Rowe of ‘snubbing’ Clark
Rowe has been a supporter of Clark – and women’s basketball in general – but should she have given Clark more credit for Tuesday night’s crowd?
“This woman has lost it. She’s supposed to be covering the game. Just wow,” one fan wrote.
“You would think Holly Rowe would recognize and truly understand that that crowd isn’t there if not for Caitlin Clark. Did you just not want to say that Holly or what?? Like it or not, that is the ONLY REASON that crowd is there,” one fan added.
“Snubbed!” one fan added.
“Correction. We have over 19,000 people come in tonight to watch Caitlin Clark. You’re welcome,” one fan added.
“This is embarrassing. You are a professional sports reporter. Get it together,” one fan added on social media.
The truth is probably in the middle somewhere. A lot of fans in attendance were there to watch Caitlin Clark play. But what Toronto has built for women’s basketball is impressive, too.
