Quarterback Christopher Vargas out of Lawrence, Massachusetts, has become one of the most sought-after players in the 2028 recruiting class. At 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds, he is the No. 1 quarterback and the No. 16 player in the nation, according to Rivals.
Despite getting ready for his junior year of high school, he's already attracted the attention of some of the top college football programs. The signal-caller has offers from the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs and Michigan Wolverines.
While each competes for a commitment, a clear favorite has already emerged. On Tuesday, Rivals' analysts Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong both logged expert predictions for Vargas to choose the Buckeyes.

It wouldn't be a surprising outcome. He has already visited Ohio State five times. After his most recent visit to Columbus on June 18, he told Wiltfong that the Buckeyes are "definitely setting the pace," noting he was impressed by their culture and quarterback development.
Ryan Day and his staff have been quick to get out in front in the 2028 recruiting class. They've already landed three commitments, ranking first in the nation. The current headliner of the group is five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison.
With a top pass catcher already in the mix, landing Vargas would give the Buckeyes a promising duo to look forward to in several years. For now, though, they must focus on staying ahead in this battle.
With many recruits committing the summer before their senior season, Vargas may take more than a year to make a decision. Getting him back on campus at Columbus for an official visit may be crucial to coming out on top.
