Giannis Antetokounmpo was traded to the Miami Heat on Monday, June 22, ending his 13-year tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks. Antetokounmpo had a Hall of Fame-level career with the Bucks, winning back-to-back MVPs (2019-20), being selected to nine All-NBA teams and, most importantly, bringing an NBA championship to Milwaukee in 2021.
The Heat gave up a haul to acquire the Greek Freak and forward Bobby Portis. Guard Tyler Herro, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., center Kel'el Ware and guard Kasparas Jakucionis were shipped out of Miami, along with a bevy of NBA Draft picks: a 2026 first-round pick (No. 13 overall), unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 first-round pick swap and a 2033 second-round pick as a sweetener.

President of Basketball Operations Pat Riley and the Heat front office will be busy filling out the rest of the roster behind Antetokounmpo and center Bam Adebayo. On Tuesday, NBA free agency negotiations began, and Riley went to work. ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday that Tim Hardaway Jr. agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal with Miami.
Hardaway Jr. spent the 2025-26 NBA season playing with Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. The 13-year veteran averaged 13.5 points per game in 26.6 minutes, and his 40.7% 3-point percentage was the highest of his career. The Miami Palmetto Senior High School graduate was originally drafted by the New York Knicks with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
"Free agent sharpshooter Tim Hardaway Jr. has agreed to a deal," Charania wrote on X. "With the Miami Heat, sources tell ESPN."
Hardaway Jr.'s father, after whom he is named, played for the same franchise from 1996-2001.
