2025 was one of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's worst seasons and a case can be made that the team might have made the playoffs if not for some of his ill-timed misses. As a result, some fans were calling for Butker to be cut or at least challenged in training camp ahead of the 2026 season.
They won't be asking for that anymore though.
Butker was called into action three times between the second and third quarters of today's game against the Los Angeles Rams. After making a pair of easy kicks that were less than 40 yards out, he was presented with a real test with a 59-yard attempt in the third.
He nailed it. With room to spare.
That kick probably would have been good from well over 60 yards, maybe even the mid-60s, but still ranks among the longest of his career. His career best is a 62-yard kick he drilled in a 2022 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Cheers for Butker
Chiefs fans were certainly satisfied that he has enough leg left to continue being their kicker and sang his praises on social media:
"Butker is back, baby!!" one Chiefs fan declared on X.
"Butker looks like he's back to form finally," wrote another.
"Butker still has a heck of a leg!" a third wrote.
"Butker with the 59-yard field goal! A lot of people doubted him last season, but he’ll be just fine."
"Now THIS one, we do learn something. Butker making a 59 yarder that would've been good by close to 70. Beautiful kick."

2026 will likely be Travis Kelce's last year with the team and a number of their top defensive players are getting older too.
At a time when the Chiefs are growing somewhat nervous that their Super Bowl window could be closing, Butker's return to form will certainly put some minds at ease.
