Last night’s game between the Denver Broncos and the defending champion Seattle Seahawks ended in an overtime Broncos win. But despite getting the W, NFL legend Tony Gonzalez thinks that the Broncos need to mull a major change.
During the Thursday Night Football postgame show, the Hall of Fame tight end suggested that the Broncos might need to consider benching starting QB Bo Nix after his lackluster performance nearly cost Denver the game. After Ryan Fitzpatrick said that Nix’s recent performances have been “almost disrespectful to the quarterback position,” Gonzalez agreed and took it a step further.
“If this keeps up, maybe even a good benching (would help),” Gonzalez said before floating backup Jarrett Stidham as an option.
Fans Don’t Like the Idea
As disappointing as Nix has been this season, the Broncos are satisfied that he continues to deliver wins. At 4-2 on the season, some fans went so far as to warn that if the team benches Nix, the locker room might revolt.
“Benching him after a win. Lmao man getting more hate then the QB that actually lost the game,” one user on X said dismissively.
“Yes. Sit him down. You will eventually lose the defense,” another remarked.
“4-2 against the toughest schedule in the NFL. Style points don’t get you extra wins. Just win. Bo is fine,” a third wrote.

Nix is completing 60.3-percent of his passes for 1,049 yards and six touchdowns with three interceptions through six games. He’s averaging less than 175 passing yards per game and has only gone over 220 yards once all season.
You can’t exactly blame the offensive line for Nix’s troubles. He’s only been sacked eight times and is averaging just four rushing attempts per game.
And Jarrett Stidham isn’t exactly Brock Purdy waiting in the wings. Stidham hasn’t thrown a pass in the regular season since 2023 and wasn’t exactly great for the Broncos in the playoffs earlier this year.
Like it or not, the Broncos seem to have no better options than him right now.
