Hailey Van Lith’s WNBA journey continues. The 5-foot-9 guard is headed toward free agency following her season with the Connecticut Sun. The Sun were eliminated from playoff contention after finishing 14th in the standings with an 11-33 record.
Van Lith signed a developmental contract with Connecticut in May, which was upgraded to a 7-day contract to fill the active roster spot temporarily vacated by teammate Leila Lacan during the FIBA Women’s World Cup earlier this month.
Van Lith played 22 games for the Sun in her second WNBA season. She averaged 5.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 15.9 minutes per contest. Her numbers improved compared to her rookie season with the Chicago Sky last year.
On Monday, the 25-year-old took to social media to send a heartfelt farewell message to the Sun following her single-season stint with the franchise.
“what a journey this year has been,” she wrote.
“Thank you to the Connecticut Sun organization and fans for allowing me to be apart of such a special season🧡
“I am filled with so much gratitude. The everyday pursuit continues🤘🏼”
It now remains to be seen what the future holds for Van Lith. The Sun can still retain her services by extending a qualifying offer. However, if she does not receive a new offer, the former TCU standout will become an unrestricted free agent and will need to look for a new contract elsewhere.
Van Lith started her WNBA journey in 2025 as the Sky’s 11th overall pick in the draft. This was after a decorated college career with Louisville, LSU and TCU. Her accolades include an AP Third Team All-American selection, a Big 12 Player of the Year title, three NCAA All-Region nods and two First Team All-ACC selections, to name a few.
