Cleveland Guardians shortstop Gabriel Arias exited the team's game on Monday against the Kansas City Royals with an apparent injury. The incident occurred after Arias hit a double. It was later revealed that Arias left the game due to left hamstring tightness, according to Tim Stebbins.

Daniel Schneemann replaced Arias after the injury. It remains to be seen if the infielder will end up missing time as a result of the hamstring tightness. Cleveland will closely monitor the situation and provide updates as they are necessary.

As for the game itself, the Royals earned a 4-2 victory over the Guardians in Cleveland. The Guardians now hold a 6-5 overall record, while the Royals improved to 5-5.

Gabriel Arias Suffers Injury in Royals-Guardians Game

Arias has continued to take steps forward as Cleveland's shortstop. He is becoming a better overall defensive player. The Guardians would surely like to see more from an offensive standpoint, however.

Through nine games played in 2026, Arias entered Monday's contest hitting just .179/.233/.393 to go along with two home runs and four RBIs. In 2025, Arias slashed .220/.274/.363 while hitting 11 home runs and recording 54 RBIs. He also finished in the 84th percentile for outs above average and 94th percentile for arm strength during the '25 campaign.

He certainly has what it takes to be a good defensive shortstop. It remains to be seen if Arias can take a step forward offensively. There is reason for promise, though. Arias ranks in the 97th percentile for bat speed and 90th percentile for average exit velocity so far this season.

Of course, the primary concern at the moment is Gabriel Arias' injury concern. As mentioned, the team will monitor and provide updates on the situation.

The Guardians will continue their series with the Royals in Cleveland on Tuesday. First pitch on Tuesday has been moved up to 1:10 PM EST because of expected frigid temperatures in Cleveland during the night, the Guardians announced.

The teams will finish the series at Progressive Field on Wednesday afternoon at 1:10 PM EST as well. Cleveland is hoping to bounce back against the AL Central rival following Monday's defeat.

The Guardians will then go on the road after Wednesday's ball game for a six-game road trip in Atlanta and St. Louis against the Braves and Cardinals.
