The Cleveland Guardians have finally made a move on Trade Deadline Day.
The Guardians have acquired outfielder Jo Adell in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels.
Adell is a solid depth and platoon piece for the Guardians.
The 27-year-old is under contract until 2028, where he will become a free agent.
In 2026, Adell is slashing .239/.287/.395, a .682 OPS, with 16 home runs, 62 RBIs and 16 doubles in 111 games.
Despite his low OPS, his right-handed bat is a plague against left-handed pitchers. In 119 at bats against southpaws, Adell is slashing .303/.338/.571, good for a .909 OPS. 10 of his 16 home runs come against lefties.
Adell will likely fall into a platoon role due to his stellar play against left-handers, and his rough .593 OPS against right-handers.
While Adell has great arm strength and sprint speed, he does not provide much of an improvement on defense or the basepaths.
However, he always seems to come up with the big plays. Earlier this season, Adell robbed three home runs in a single game against Seattle Mariners in a 1-0 victory.
In exchange for Jo Adell, the Angels are receiving catching prospect Jacob Cozart. The 23-year-old is currently in Double-A with a .714 OPS.
