Could the New York Giants pursue Shedeur Sanders after losing Jaxson Dart to a season-ending injury?
Unfortunately, Dart suffered a knee injury during the opening series of Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. The initial belief was that Dart would return later this season, but his MRI results showed damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus. As a result, he’ll be on ice for the next few months.
Even though Jameis Winston is on track to start for the Giants during Dart’s absence, ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith believes they should try to acquire Sanders from the Cleveland Browns.
“I would tell the Giants to go out and pursue Shedeur Sanders,” Smith said. “Can you pull that off if you’re the New York Giants?”

Ironically enough, Sanders was heavily linked to the Giants leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft. The front office in New York, however, opted to take Dart with the 25th overall pick.
So far, Dart (2,522 passing yards, 541 rushing yards and 27 total touchdowns) has been far more productive than Sanders (1,400 passing yards and eight total touchdowns) in the NFL.
While the idea of Sanders joining New York’s quarterback room is interesting, we highly doubt Cleveland moves on from him. After all, he could replace Deshaun Watson as the starter fairly soon.
The Giants might add a quarterback, but it won’t be Shedeur.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Giants might pursue veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency.
Garoppolo, who hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2022, has completed 67.4% of his career passes for 15,828 yards and 96 touchdowns. He’d certainly give the Giants respectable depth behind Winston.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter also mentioned Gardner Minshew as an option for the Giants, but that would require a trade with the Arizona Cardinals.
