The San Francisco Giants current sit 8 1/2 games outside of a playoff spot 71 games into the season. They are in fourth place in the National League West Division and have completely whiffed on their preseason expectations.
They are in their first year under manager Tony Vitello and are set to continue their playoff drought.
A struggling team loaded with stars in mid-June tends to come with the question, will this team be sellers at the trade deadline?
That answer appears to be a resounding yes for the Giants, who are reportedly open to offers on a number of their large contract star players.
Such as first basemen/designated hitterRafael Devers, shortstop Willy Adames and third basemen Matt Chapman. However, they do not seem to be open to trading young stars or star pitcher Logan Webb.
This report comes one year removed from the blockbuster trade for Rafael Devers. At the time, the Giants were 10 games over the .500 mark and the future of the franchise looked extremely bright.
They have multiple star players locked up for years after failing to sign other big name free agents, but now all of that hope has come crashing down.
In the Giants defense, these three big contract stars have not lived up to the money thus far. Devers holds a .706 OPS with nine home runs and Adames is posting a .692 OPS with a .229 batting average. While Chapman has hit well thus far this season, his .762 OPS is not worth $151 million.
Removing these large contracts from the books would free up a lot of room for the Giants to make improvements for their future. They may not need a full rebuild, but perhaps just a retool with all their freed up cash.

Contending teams would love to have these players, but their contracts may keep the Giants from getting as much back as they would like. This is a similar case to the original Red Sox and Giants trade.
If moved, here are the best options for each player.
Devers to Queens: The New York Mets have had awful production from their star studded lineup this year. Mixing in Devers in the middle to play either first, third or DH would make a lot of sense for New York. Sending over Brett Baty and prospects would likely do the job.
Adames to Tampa Bay: The Rays may finally be all in this year, as they current sit atop the American East East Division. Their offense has been good, but they do not receive production from their shortstop. Trading Taylor Walls and prospects to the Giants for Adames could set up the Rays are true World Series Contenders.
Chapman to Philadelphia: The Phillies are not ones to stray away from large contracts. With Phillies' third basemen Alec Bohm set to become a free agent, trading him as well as prospects to the Giants for a much needed right-handed bat could be a perfect fit.
With the deadline still a month and a half away, these decisions could still change. But if these are the cases, we could be in for a blockbuster 2026 deadline.
