Metlife Stadium, which hosted the FIFA Men's World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain on Sunday, is known for having one of the worst turf fields in the league. Players are often complaining about it. Several high-profile injuries have taken place on the turf field, too, as it's changed over the years.
But when the 2026 NFL season begins in early September, many stadiums that hosted World Cup games with grass fields, will go back to using turf fields.

The Athletic put together a ranking of every team's 2026 season, based on their field conditions - grass or turf.
Two teams lead the way at the bottom of the rankings
The New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans have the "worst case" scenarios for the 2026 season. Each team will have 15 games on turf fields.
Meanwhile, five NFL teams - the Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins, Eagles and Broncos - have the "best case" scenario, with just three and four games on turf fields.
Many NFL players have made it clear that they would prefer to play on grass fields - if FIFA can do it for the World Cup, why can't the NFL do it for regular season games? - but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen at most stadiums anytime soon.
Perhaps things will change after the 2026 NFL season, though - that's what many are hoping for, at least.
