The New York Giants have plenty of reasons to be excited about the development of running back Cam Skattebo entering the 2026 NFL season. After an impressive rookie campaign, the former Arizona State star is expected to play an even larger role in the Giants' offense as the team looks to improve in a competitive NFC East.
That optimism briefly gave way to concern earlier this summer when Skattebo took a hard fall while attempting a celebratory backflip at a charity softball event. Fortunately for New York, the injury scare proved to be minor, and the second-year running back offered another encouraging update Friday.
Speaking with reporters at training camp, Skattebo revealed he's nearly back to full strength while joking about what it will take to feel completely healthy.
Cam Skattebo Shares Positive Injury Update
Skattebo was asked how he's feeling after the offseason injury scare and didn't hesitate with his answer.
"I'm 99.9%," he said.
When asked what it would take to reach 100%, Skattebo laughed before replying:
"A touchdown."
The lighthearted exchange was another sign that the Giants running back is fully confident heading into training camp after what initially appeared to be a concerning moment earlier this offseason.
Following the backflip incident, Skattebo reassured reporters that he was "perfectly fine," and Friday's comments only reinforced that he expects to be ready when the regular season begins.
Giants Expect Bigger Things From Skattebo in Year 2
The Giants selected Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after a standout collegiate career at Arizona State, where his physical running style and versatility made him one of the nation's most productive offensive players.
He carried that momentum into his rookie season.
In 2025, Skattebo rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries while averaging 4.1 yards per attempt. He also proved to be a valuable receiving option out of the backfield, catching 24 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
His biggest game came against the Philadelphia Eagles when he rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing the downhill style that has quickly made him a fan favorite in New York.
With Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary also in the running back room, the Giants have multiple options in the backfield. Still, Skattebo's combination of toughness, balance and pass-catching ability gives him an opportunity to carve out an even bigger workload during his second NFL season.
For now, Giants fans can take comfort in knowing their young running back is feeling nearly 100 percent healthy.
If Skattebo gets his wish by finding the end zone early this season, he may finally have the last 0.1% he's looking for.
