The San Francisco Giants will be without outfielder Jonah Cox after placing the 24-year-old on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain before Wednesday's series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The move, which is retroactive to July 6, prompted the Giants to recall versatile catcher, infielder and outfielder Jesús Rodríguez from Triple-A Sacramento to fill the open roster spot.
Cox has provided athleticism and defensive versatility since joining the organization, making him a valuable depth option across the outfield. His absence leaves San Francisco without one of its speedier players as the club continues its push through the middle of the season.
Rodríguez gives manager Bob Melvin another flexible option off the bench. The 24-year-old has experience at catcher, the infield and the outfield, allowing the Giants to cover multiple positions with a single roster move while Cox begins his recovery.
The Giants did not announce a timetable for Cox's return beyond placing him on the injured list. Because the move is retroactive to July 6, he will be eligible for activation once he has satisfied the minimum stay and is medically cleared to return.

San Francisco's latest roster adjustment comes just before a key series against Toronto, allowing Rodríguez to contribute while the club manages another injury. His versatility should provide additional flexibility as the Giants navigate their lineup during Cox's absence.
For now, the focus shifts to Cox's recovery and Rodríguez's chance to make an impact at the major league level as San Francisco looks to maintain momentum during a busy stretch of the schedule.
