The New York Giants are entering a new era under head coach John Harbaugh in his first season on the Big Blue sidelines, and that might come with the loss of one of the franchise's veterans.

New York used the offseason to add multiple pieces across the roster while attempting to stabilize a team that has made only two playoff appearances in the past 15 years.

However, the Giants' process just got short-circuited following the unexpected trade requests from seven-year defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence reported on Monday morning.

ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news, writing, "Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade and he will not be participating in the team’s off-season workout program that opens Tuesday."

According to Schefter, the request follows three offseasons in which the All-Pro defender and the franchise have failed to agree to a contract extension "reflecting his value to the Giants."

Shortly after Schefter's initial report, fellow ESPN analyst Jordan Raanan revealed the potential trade package the Giants should expect to receive if they actually entertain the idea of moving Lawrence.

“Asked around the league and the general consensus appears to be that IF the Giants were willing to trade Dexter Lawrence the return would be in the range of late first-round pick to second-rounder.”

The Giants drafted Lawrence with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and the defensive tackle has racked up 341 tackles and 30.5 sacks over seven seasons.

Lawrence signed a four-year, $87.5 million deal in May 2023, keeping him under contract through 2027. He will earn a base salary of $18.5 million with $3.247 million guaranteed for injury.

The Giants' defensive tackle has earned three Pro Bowl selections and two second-team All-Pro honors throughout his career.
