The last thing the New York Giants want to see is an injury to Cam Skattebo. His rookie season ended after eight games because of a serious right ankle injury, and the second-year running back is expected to have an important role in the Giants’ offense under new head coach John Harbaugh. Skattebo has been working his way back throughout the offseason with the goal of being ready for Week 1.
Skattebo had been getting more involved as training camp progressed and was expected to share a significant workload with Tyrone Tracy Jr. The Giants have been big on their running game this summer, making Skattebo’s health particularly important as he prepares for his second NFL season.

However, the team received a huge scare during Friday’s training. According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Skattebo went down following a collision with linebacker Arvell Reese, then stretched his left leg and did not return to practice.
He remained on the sideline, but the Giants will keep a close eye on Skattebo following the latest scare.
Skattebo had another scare during Fanatics Fest in July when he attempted a backflip and landed awkwardly on his surgically repaired right ankle. He said afterward that he was fine and had not suffered a setback, but the incident was a cause for concern because of the severity of the injury that ended his rookie season.
The Giants selected Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the No. 105 overall pick after his standout career at Arizona State. He rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries while adding 24 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns in eight games as a rookie.
