The San Francisco Giants have placed right-handed reliever Keaton Winn on the 15-day injured list with recurring right elbow neuritis and recalled left-hander Reiver Sanmartín from Triple-A Sacramento.
The Giants announced the roster move on their official X account Thursday, with Winn’s injury creating another opening in a bullpen that has dealt with several health issues this season.
Winn has been one of San Francisco’s more reliable relief options when healthy, posting a 3.35 ERA and 0.98 WHIP across 44 appearances in 2026.
The elbow issue is not entirely new for Winn. He missed nearly a month earlier this season with a right elbow strain after pitching on three consecutive days, and his medical history includes Tommy John surgery and an ulnar nerve transposition procedure.
Sanmartín now gets another opportunity in the majors after beginning the season on the 60-day injured list with a right hip flexor strain. He made his season debut June 10 and has appeared in 10 games.
The left-hander has struggled in his limited major league work, recording a 7.45 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over 9.2 innings. However, he enters this stint with some recent momentum after throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts against the Cleveland Guardians on Aug. 18.

The Giants are 52-74 and sit fourth in the NL West, 24 games behind the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. With the postseason picture largely out of reach, Sanmartín’s opportunity could become part of San Francisco’s evaluation for next season.
For Winn, the priority is now getting the elbow issue under control. For Sanmartín, the call-up provides another chance to show the Giants he can become a dependable bullpen option heading into 2027.
