The San Francisco Giants‘ No. 3 prospect has officially begun his professional career.
Right-hander Jackson Flora, whom San Francisco selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, made his professional debut with Single-A San Jose on Friday. The 21-year-old pitched a scoreless first inning while recording two strikeouts over 28 pitches (14 strikes).
Although his debut had to wait a little, Flora’s first professional game was a reminder of why the Giants drafted him as high as they did. His fastball topped out at 98 mph, while he bent but did not break, working around a walk and a double to keep Single-A Fresno off the scoreboard in the first.
Yet even after a solid first outing, the Giants will likely continue to be very cautious with how they use Flora for the rest of 2026.
Flora is coming off a phenomenal season with UC Santa Barbara. In 16 starts, he posted a 12-0 record with a Division I-best 1.06 ERA over 102 innings. Flora also recorded 133 strikeouts against just 32 walks, while holding opposing hitters to a minuscule .155 batting average.
The California native’s dominant campaign earned him Golden Spikes Award semifinalist honors, a consensus first-team All-American selection, and fueled the Gauchos to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons.
Flora’s heavy workload this past spring has been a major factor in San Francisco easing him into his professional career. But there should be more opportunities for MLB Pipeline‘s No. 31 overall prospect to pitch again this season.
While the Single-A regular season ends on Sunday, San Jose (78-52) clinched a California League North Division Series berth by winning the first-half title, and the club remains atop the second-half standings as well.
Flora pitching again could help him build momentum heading into 2027 and continue to rise through San Francisco’s farm system.
Nonetheless, Flora’s priority right now remains settling in at the professional level while proving the Giants were wise to select him with the fourth overall pick in this summer’s draft.
Flora’s progression will be a storyline to watch throughout the rest of 2026 as San Francisco has a firm focus on the future.
