The Toronto Blue Jays won an important series heading into the weekend, taking two of three games against the Cleveland Guardians. After Thursday’s win the Blue Jays now sit just 0.5 games back of the final American League wild card spot.
With the Blue Jays eyeing a postseason spot, designated hitter George Springer has come up huge recently. The 36-year-old veteran was scorching hot during the month of August, improving his numbers on the season.
Across 398 at-bats, Springer has posted a .251 batting average, .326 on-base percentage, .743 OPS, 14 home runs and 46 RBIs. Despite being in his late 30s, he has also swiped 11 bags.

As Springer’s bat heats up at the plate, this season has also marked a special one for him and his family. Springer entered the season married to his wife Charlise Castro, with the two already having two children together, both boys.
During their series against the Guardians, Springer’s wife took to Instagram to announce the family had added one more member, a third boy.
She debuted the new addition in a post saying, “Canada Day looked a little different this year :’) 🇨🇦🕸️☕️🦖♥️,” accompanied by a series of emojis.
As Springer’s life gets more exciting off the field, his life on it is starting to do so as well. This could represent the final season that Springer and his family spend calling Toronto home, given he is in the final year of his six-year, $150 million contract and was mentioned as a potential trade candidate at this year’s deadline.
Whatever comes next, he is making sure these final weeks in a Blue Jays uniform count for something.
