The Dallas Cowboys made one of the biggest moves of the offseason when they acquired wide receiver George Pickens, giving quarterback Dak Prescott another elite weapon alongside CeeDee Lamb.
Expectations are understandably high as the Cowboys prepare for the 2026 NFL season, and owner Jerry Jones isn't hiding how much he believes in his newest star.
Jones made headlines this week when he suggested Pickens could spend the rest of his career in Dallas, a notable vote of confidence considering the receiver is playing this season on the franchise tag.
Pickens was asked about those comments during training camp and didn't hesitate to respond, making it clear he appreciates the confidence the organization has already shown in him. As Dallas continues building toward another Super Bowl run, the relationship between Jones and Pickens appears to be off to a strong start.
George Pickens Reacts to Jerry Jones' Comments
Speaking with reporters earlier this week, Jones expressed his belief that Pickens could be a fixture in Dallas for years to come.
"Make no mistake about it, George could be a Cowboy for the rest of his career, and that'd be a long time."
It didn't take long for Pickens to hear about the comments, and he welcomed them with open arms.
"Super excited. I'm always super happy when someone thinks highly of me, so shout out to Jerry."
The response was brief, but it showed the excitement surrounding Pickens' fresh start with the Cowboys and the confidence being shown by one of the franchise's most influential voices.
Cowboys Expect Big Things From Pickens
Dallas acquired Pickens to give Prescott another dynamic playmaker opposite Lamb, creating one of the NFL's most dangerous wide receiver tandems heading into the season.
The former Georgia standout is coming off a career year in 2025, hauling in 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.
His 1,429 receiving yards ranked third in the NFL, while his 93 catches ranked eighth. He also averaged 15.4 yards per reception, the seventh-best mark among the league's top receivers, demonstrating the explosive downfield ability that has made him one of football's premier big-play threats.
Still just 25 years old, Pickens has already accumulated 267 receptions, 4,270 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns during his NFL career. His combination of size, athleticism and contested-catch ability is exactly what Dallas hoped to add when it brought him in.
Although Pickens will play the 2026 season under the franchise tag, Jones' comments indicate the Cowboys aren't simply viewing him as a short-term addition. Instead, the organization appears interested in building a long-term future with the talented receiver if everything goes according to plan.
For now, Pickens is focused on proving he belongs in Dallas. But if he delivers another season like the one he produced in 2025 while helping the Cowboys compete for an NFC title, Jones' prediction that he could spend the rest of his career wearing a star on his helmet may prove to be more than just training camp optimism.
