Geno Auriemma jokes are pouring in during the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament national title game on Sunday.
The No. 1 seed South Carolina Gamecocks are taking on No. 1 seed UCLA in the national championship game on Sunday. UConn had fallen to South Carolina in the Final Four on Friday night. The Huskies' head coach got into a heated altercation with Dawn Staley late in the game.
Auriemma ultimately apologized.
"There's no excuse for how I handled the end of the game vs. South Carolina," Auriemma said in a statement issued through the school. "It's unlike what I do and what our standard is here at Connecticut. I want to apologize to the staff and the team at South Carolina. It was uncalled for in how I reacted. The story should be how well South Carolina played, and I don't want my actions to detract from that. I've had a great relationship with their staff, and I sincerely want to apologize to them."

On Sunday, as he has to watch from home, fans joked that Geno Auriemma would be pouring into the stadium with a metal chair, wrestling style.
"Oh crap Geno Auriemma just entered the arena with a steel chair in hand!" one fan wrote.
"I need Geno Auriemma to make a surprise appearance at today's game!" one fan added.
"Geno needs to pull a villain move and show up today, courtside," one fan added.
"Geno Auriemma, come on down today!" one fan added.
Staley, meanwhile, had little to say about Geno Auriemma before tipoff
Staley was in no mood to talk before the game.
"That's a little disheartening," Staley said. "At the same time, this is sports. Sometimes things like this happen. That's why I'm just going to continue to focus on our team and their ability to advance in this tournament, hopefully win another national championship."
