United States figure skater Alysa Liu became a global phenomenon following her tremendous success in the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The 20-year-old entered her second Winter Games with high hopes, and she came home with two gold medals.
Liu helped lead Team USA to victory in the team competition. She doubled her gold tally in the singles event with spectacular performances in the short program and the free skate. Liu broke a 24-year curse for the U.S. by becoming the first female figure skater to win gold in individual competition since 2002.
Unsurprisingly, Liu’s newfound fame has resulted in multiple major public appearances since she returned to home soil.

The City of Oakland, Liu’s hometown, recently announced that it will be holding a celebration rally to honor the two-time Olympic gold medalist. The event is scheduled on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. local time and will be held in the Frank Ogawa Plaza in downtown Oakland.
Only a limited number of fans will be accommodated in the venue. The first round of tickets sold out quickly, prompting the City of Oakland to release more free tickets on Monday.
It did not take long for those tickets to go out of stock, too.
“* UPDATE: Tickets are now SOLD OUT in record time! The love for Alysa is real,*” Visit Oakland posted on Instagram.
More than a few fans were not able to secure tickets. This led to growing frustration from supporters who want to join in on the celebrations.
“This just says sold out😢😢😢😢😢😢” a comment on Instagram read.
“Fart in so sad,” another said.
“Bro you can’t be serious,” a user posted.
“bouta give up bro,” a reaction read.
“It’s sold out,” declared another.
“Are we [for real],” a fan wrote.
Unfortunately, the Frank Ogawa Plaza has limited space and can only accommodate a specific number of supporters. Nevertheless, this fact does little to ease the disappointment of some fans who are set to miss the celebration.
