Francisco Lindor was pleased to hear the New York Mets had removed the interim tag from Andy Green and made him their permanent manager.

The Mets announced Green has signed a three-year contract through 2029 after taking over as interim manager in June. Green replaced Carlos Mendoza and helped guide the club through the remainder of a difficult season.

Lindor reacted positively to the decision, telling reporters that the news “brought a smile to my face,” according to Abbey Mastracco.

Green initially took over the Mets after the club started 34-47. Since then, New York has gone 37-38, giving the organization a reason to keep him in the dugout beyond the 2026 season.

Lindor’s support comes as the Mets prepare for an offseason focused on evaluating the roster and building around their current core.

The veteran shortstop has appeared in 100 games this season, hitting .225 with 20 home runs, 48 RBI, 11 doubles and four triples.

Green previously served as the Mets’ senior vice president of player development before taking over as manager. His familiarity with the organization and its younger players has been an important part of his transition to the dugout.

The Mets entered Wednesday at 72-85 and have been eliminated from postseason contention. Their final games will now give Green an opportunity to continue working with the roster before heading into his first full offseason as the club’s manager.

For Lindor, the reaction to Green’s new contract was clear. The Mets’ shortstop welcomed the decision as the organization begins looking toward 2027.
