France star Gabby Williams pulled out the “too small” celebration during their FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup game against South Korea on Sunday.
In France’s second game in the ongoing FIBA World Cup, Williams was hyped during one of the plays after making a tough layup against South Korea’s Park Ji-hyun.
The Golden State Valkyries forward celebrated with the “too small” gesture after draining the basket, while also staring down Park to add insult to injury.
Williams’ actions could have resulted in a technical foul for taunting, but the referees let the play continue. After the game, Williams sent a message to the referee over her in-game behavior.
“Hey, shoutout to the ref, he didn’t give me a tech,” Williams said during her postgame interview. “I thought I was back in the [WNBA].”
The 29-year-old finished the game with 14 points, four boards, three assists, three steals and one block to help France secure a 95-69 win.
The Valkyries star also shared what the referee told her after the play, and she vowed to be more careful with her actions moving forward.
“He was like, ‘I’ll let it slide.’ Shoutout to him,” Williams added. “… But I won’t do it again.”
This was France’s second win in the tournament after they also blew out Hungary in their first game on Friday, 99-53.
Williams and France are now through to the quarterfinals, but they still have a game to spare in the group phase. They are set to face Nigeria on Monday.
The 5-foot-11 forward is also one of the key players for the Valkyries in the WNBA, averaging 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals in 37 games.
