After working as a sideline reporter for WIP covering the Philadelphia Eagles, Devan Kaney was laid off and made the decision to join FOX Chicago, where she will now become a reporter for the Chicago Bears. This decision didn't sit well with some Eagles fans.
On Monday, Kaney made a normal report on X about some injury news on the Bears. One Eagles fan went into her replies and called her a "Philly turncoat."
"Enjoy your Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls & Blackhawks you Philly turncoat I guess everyone has a price," the user wrote.
Kaney didn't take kindly to that accusation and called out the user and others for attacking her over the decision to do what's best for herself.
“Yeah a price like getting paid a living wage. Getting real sick of Philly people attacking me for doing what’s best for my career," Kaney wrote.
"Maybe turn your attention inwards and ask why Philly sports media has so few opportunities for women or people of color instead.”
Kaney Fights Back
Plenty of fans agreed with the sentiment. The user who called her a "Philly turncoat" promptly got ratio'd and mocked on X. Even other Philadelphia media figures took to her replies and pointed out how incredibly difficult it is to break into the industry.
"Holy cook 🔥🔥 WIP never valued you the way they should’ve. If they ran a poll you’d win majority vote by Eagles fanbase to be the sideline reporter for them," one user on X declared.
"What a superb response, @Devan_Kaney ! Wishing you nothing but success in another truly great sports town and overall amazing city," wrote another.

"They’re just salty you get to have a superior food and city experience. But also, a few minutes on the Goog would help enlighten the slappies on how competitive it is to just find jobs in sports media that pay a decent salary," a third wrote.
“I don’t think people understand how hard it is to get good jobs in this industry—but I digress," SI's Jeff Kerr replied.
Before joining FOX Chicago, Kaney was a weekend anchor and reporter for FOX 29 Philadelphia and an arena host for the Philadelphia Flyers. She was laid off from WIP in April but found work quickly in Chicago.
