Fox News is facing backlash online for its happy birthday message to Sophie Cunningham on Sunday morning.
Cunningham, an Indiana Fever guard, is turning 30 years old on Sunday. She's hoping to celebrate her birthday with a victory. The Fever are set to take on the Atlanta Dream on Sunday evening.
Fox News was among those to with Cunningham a happy birthday on Sunday. Fox News referred to Cunningham as a "WNBA superstar." Cunningham is a decent player, but with averages of 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game, she's certainly not a superstar.
"Happy Birthday to WNBA superstar Sophie Cunningham! 🎉🏀," she wrote.
While it's fine to wish Sophie Cunnigham a happy birthday, fans are taking issue with her being referred to as a "superstar."

"Remove the News from your handle. You guys are a joke at this point. I must have missed the Aja Wilson Happy Birthday oh wait she's not white so never mind," one fan added.

"Calling her a superstar when majority didn’t even know she existed at the start of the season," one fan added.

"I really like Sophie Cunningham as a person and a player but I refuse to pretend like she’s a superstar. She’s a good role player coming off the bench and that’s ok," one fan added.
