The 2026 FIFA World Cup is less than two months away, and FOX Sports has made another addition to what is shaping up to be a stacked broadcast lineup.
The scale of FOX's coverage this summer is extensive. All 104 matches will air live across FOX and FS1, with every game also available to stream on FOX One and the FOX Sports App. The tournament runs from June 11 through July 19.
On Tuesday, the network confirmed that Peter Schmeichel will return as a studio analyst for the tournament. The former Manchester United goalkeeper and Danish football legend joins a panel that already includes Zlatan Ibrahimović, Thierry Henry and Javier Hernández. A group that brings serious weight to what FOX is building for this summer.
"I'm so happy to be joining the FOX Sports team again for this special FIFA World Cup and can't wait for the opening match on June 11," Schmeichel said. "Between all the fans that will be present and the amazing atmospheres, I'm looking forward to experiencing everything the tournament brings with it and sharing my insights with viewers."
Clarence Seedorf and Hernández confirmed their roles back in April. Ibrahimović announced his involvement in March. Henry, who made his FOX Sports debut during the World Cup draw coverage in December, remains part of the team. Rebecca Lowe is also set to make her FOX Sports debut this summer as one of the primary hosts for the tournament.
Schmeichel's Career Speaks for Itself
Few goalkeepers put together a career like Schmeichel did. He came up through Danish football with Gladsaxe-Hero, Hvidovre and Brøndby before Manchester United came calling in 1991. That move defined his legacy.
He went on to collect 15 trophies at Old Trafford and captained the side to the 1999 UEFA Champions League title, the centerpiece of United's historic treble that season. After leaving United, he had stints with Sporting CP, Aston Villa and Manchester City before calling it a career.
On the international stage, Schmeichel had 129 caps for Denmark between 1987 and 2001, helped the country win the 1992 European Championship and represented the national side at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Twenty years at the top level, club and country.
He is no stranger to the FOX desk either, having served as an analyst during UEFA Euro 2024 coverage. With the World Cup coming to North America this summer, bringing him back makes sense.
Schmeichel's addition gives the studio a voice that knows what it means to compete at the highest level of the game.
