Former U.S. President Barack Obama is sending congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers following their World Series win.
The Brewers topped the Rays in Game 5 of the 2026 World Series on Wednesday evening, winning their first championship.
Milwaukee took down the vaunted Dodgers en route to winning the World Series, taking down the Rays in five games.
“If you’re expecting to go to the World Series on the NL side, you’re going to have to go through these guys until somebody proves different,” Christian Yelich said before the NLCS. “That’s the standard they’ve set the last few years.”
“(Yelich) kept speaking it into existence,” manager Pat Murphy said. “He kept saying, ‘Hey, you know, we’re going to win the World Series.'”

Obama, a major sports fan, sent congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday.
“The best team all season left no doubt. Congrats to the @Brewers and everyone in Milwaukee on your first World Series title!” he wrote on X.
The Brewers got it done with a small payroll
The Brewers had a payroll of around $140 million in 2026. They ranked No. 19 in the league in payroll.
Milwaukee is one of the smallest payroll teams to win the World Series.
Owner Mark Attanasio is proud of what his team accomplished.
“I used to use the words ‘punch above our weight,’ and the payroll reflects that,” Attanasio said after the World Series. “I think we still have among the smallest media revenues, including this year, but we’re able to get to a No. 19 or No. 20 out of 30 teams in payroll because of the support that we get. We put all of our resources back into the team.”
The Brewers will be around for a while, too. They enter the 2027 MLB season No. 1 in ESPN’s power rankings.
