Two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Schaub is on track to return to the NFL next season in a new role.
Schaub played for the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons during his career, throwing for 25,467 yards with 136 touchdowns and 91 interceptions. After retiring from the NFL in January 2021, he took a year off before returning to the Falcons as a football analyst.
What's next for Schaub? According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the Arizona Cardinals are expected to hire Schaub as their quarterbacks coach.
If this deal comes to fruition, Schaub will get to work alongside first-year head coach Mike LaFleur. He was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams from 2023-2025.
"I couldn't be more fired up to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and am beyond grateful to Michael and [general manager] Monti [Ossenfort] for this opportunity," LaFleur said in a statement. "Having competed against them in the NFC so many times in recent years, I know the type of talent and toughness the team has and cannot wait to get to Arizona to hit the ground running."

Who'll be the QB for the Cardinals?
According to multiple reports, Kyler Murray is expected to be on the move this offseason. The Cardinals should get a Day 2 pick in return for him.
“An NFC source believes the starting price for Murray, if Arizona is interested in trading him, could start with a second-round pick. That source believes if the Cardinals can trade Murray, they will. The league source believes Murray’s market starts with a third-round pick,” ESPN reporter Josh Weinfuss wrote. “That source compared Murray’s situation with Geno Smith’s when he was traded from Seattle to Las Vegas last March for a third-round.”
The Cardinals could either scan the trade market for a quarterback, sign Malik Willis in free agency, or pursue a prospect like Ty Simpson in the upcoming draft.
