Kayshon Boutte is set to take on an expanded role immediately after joining the Houston Texans, with the former New England Patriots wide receiver expected to make an impact in Sunday’s season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
The Texans acquired Boutte from the Patriots in a trade that sent safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick to New England. The move came after Houston lost wide receiver Jayden Higgins to a season-ending ACL injury.
Boutte’s arrival gives the Texans another explosive option alongside Nico Collins as they prepare for the start of the regular season. Head coach DeMeco Ryans has indicated that the new addition will have a significant role despite arriving shortly before Week 1.
The transition could be easier than usual because Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley previously worked with the Patriots. Boutte is therefore entering an offensive system with concepts that are familiar to him, while he has also been working to develop chemistry with quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Boutte is coming off his most productive NFL season. He caught 33 passes for 551 yards and six touchdowns across 14 games for New England in 2025, averaging 16.7 yards per reception.
The six touchdown catches were also a career high for the former sixth-round pick, who has now recorded 78 receptions for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns through three seasons.

Houston will need that big-play ability with Higgins unavailable for the season and Tank Dell beginning the year on injured reserve. Boutte now has an opportunity to move quickly from a depth role in New England to a meaningful position in the Texans’ offense.
The timing could hardly be more challenging. Houston opens the season against Buffalo, but the Texans clearly believe Boutte can contribute immediately.
For Boutte, the move also provides the larger opportunity he was seeking. After finishing last season with six touchdowns, he enters his new team with a chance to establish himself as a major part of Stroud’s receiving corps.
