Former Denver Broncos and New York Giants wide receiver Arthur Marshall has sadly passed away this week at the age of 57.
Marshall, a former star at the University of Georgia, had 39 receptions for 524 yards during his senior season. He then joined the Broncos in 1992 and had 493 receiving yards as a rookie. By 1994, he joined the Giants and was used primarily as a punt returner.
According to Fox 54, Marshall passed away after a battle with stomach cancer.
“A former professional NFL athlete, Arthur carried strength and determination throughout his life, but those who knew him best will remember him most for the size of his heart. He was a giver by nature-generous with his time, love, encouragement, and support. He genuinely cared for people and found joy in helping others,” his obituary states.
“Above all, Arthur treasured his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Lena, and a loving father to Arthur and Aubern, as well as a cherished bonus father to Giana and Alex. He was a beloved son to his mother, Mrs. Rosemary Marshall, and a loving brother to Marvin and his six other siblings. He was also a proud grandfather to six grandsons, who brought tremendous joy to his life.”
Marshall was a Hephzibah legend.
Prior to becoming a pro, Marshall was a standout athlete at Hephzibah High. The school’s current coach, Daniel Dorsey, spoke highly of the late wideout.
“When he touched the field, you knew he was on the field,” Dorsey told Fox 54. “He made a difference, whether it was offense, defense or special teams. He was just a special player all around.”
