A former NFL star is blasting the state of California for letting a "monster" out of prison this week.

Former NFL kicker Jay Feely, a former All-Rookie performer and college football national champion, is blasting California Gov. Gavin Newsom for letting a "monster" out of prison this week.

Feely, who is running for U.S. Congress in California, took to X to blast the state of California for its decision.

David Funston, a convicted child molester, was released from prison last week. Back in 1999, he was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole for kidnapping children and sexually abusing victims as young as 4 years old. He was described by police as a “serial child molester who used candy and toys to lure children seven years old and younger.”

"He was found eligible for parole at his first hearing before the Board of Parole Hearings on Sept. 24, 2025. On Feb. 18, 2026, the board reaffirmed its decision to release Funston under the state’s Elderly Parole Program," 4 News reported.

A U.S. Sheriff was furious with the decision to let him out on parole.

"How do they explain that to those children and their parents? How do they tell families that a predator of this nature is ‘no longer a risk?’ Under California’s Elderly Parole Program, inmates over 50 are eligible for parole. He is 64. Age does not erase predatory behavior. It does not undo grooming. It does not restore stolen childhoods. Childhood sexual predators do not suddenly become safe because they turned 50," the U.S. Sheriff said.

Former NFL kicker Jay Feely was outraged, too.

"When you say the left is crazy and their beliefs and ideals are dangerous to the welfare of Americans this a perfect example. How could even a liberal parole board in California let this monster out of jail," he wrote.

Funston has already been arrested again, too.

Shortly after getting released on parole, he was promptly arrested.

"California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said they handed him over to sheriff’s deputies in Placer County, where he was arrested in connection to a newly-filed child molestation case," News 4 reported.

"Inmate records show Funston, 64, was booked into a Placer County jail Thursday for lewd or lascivious acts against a child. He remained in custody without bail as of Friday afternoon."

Feely has to be happy that he's back in prison. But why was he out in the first place?
