The NFL world learned Wednesday that All-Pro linebacker Fredd Young passed away at the age of 64.
Young, the 76th overall pick in the 1984 draft, started his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks. He spent four seasons in Seattle before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 1988.
In 101 regular-season games, Young racked up 21 sacks, 15 forced fumbles and three interceptions. Not only did he earn Pro Bowl honors four times, the Seahawks ranked him in the top 50 for best players in franchise history.
We’d have to imagine the Seahawks have a plan in place to honor Young this weekend.
New Mexico State legend.
Prior to going pro in 1984, Young had an incredible career at New Mexico State. He represented the Aggies from 1980-1983, finishing his career with 393 tackles (which ranks fourth all-time in program history).
The 1983 season was a memorable one for Young, who had 140 tackles and 12 sacks for New Mexico State. His dominance on the gridiron earned him a spot in the US Bank/NM State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991.
Young is survived by his wife and children. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
