Former Houston Texans star Arian Foster isn’t trying to rain on everyone else’s parade, but he’s not exactly eager to praise the current top quarterbacks in the NFL.
While on a Barstool Sports podcast this week, Foster addressed the current state of quarterback play in the NFL. He pointed out how he played in era that featured Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning.
“This is not a good era for quarterbacks right now,” Foster said. “Look at like the era I grew up playing; Peyton, Tom, Drew Brees. These caliber quarterbacks were a different caliber than the quarterbacks playing in the NFL right now.”
There’s no question Patrick Mahomes is going to be a future Hall of Famer, but fans are still waiting for Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson to have their big breakthrough in the postseason. Most of the top quarterbacks of the 2000s and 2010s won a Lombardi Trophy, including Brady, Brees and Manning.

Fans fire back at Foster’s take.
“Every generation thinks its QBs were the last real ones. Give it ten years and kids will be saying nobody throws like Mahomes anymore,” one fan argued.
“Mahomes is a HOF lock. Guys like Allen & Burrow are up there talent-wise. Fair take overall. But the reality is, (we’ll realize this years from now) those times were an anomaly. All-time great QB era that we will probably just never see again in our lifetimes,” a second fan commented.
“Mahomes, Josh, and Lamar are 3 of the best ever,” another fan declared.
It certainly doesn’t help that quarterbacks are getting injured at a high rate in today’s NFL.
At the end of the day though, the NFL has to be glad it has stars like Mahomes and Allen anchoring its product.
