With the NBA season just a few weeks away, it’s been confirmed that former New York Knicks star J.R. Smith was arrested in Texas.
Smith, a former first-round pick, played in the NBA from 2004-2020. He was named the Sixth Man of the Year during the 2012-2013 season, he was a key player on the Cleveland Cavaliers when they won a title in 2016, and he added a second ring to his résumé in 2020 when he joined the Los Angeles Lakers in the bubble.
The former shooting guard was arrested Tuesday for “assault causing bodily injury family violence,” according to Hunt County jail records.
“Smith remains in the Hunt County Detention Center, and jail records show no bond has been set,” TMZ reported. “Smith has been jailed before … including serving 24 days behind bars after pleading guilty to reckless driving in connection with a 2007 crash that killed one of his passengers.”

The details surrounding this situation are limited.
All we know right now is that Smith remains behind bars. That’ll most likely change in the coming hours.
Smith, who averaged 12.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in his career, was in New York last postseason to cheer the Knicks on during their run to the Finals.
We’ll continue to monitor Smith’s arrest and what’s to come for him.
