The Indiana Fever ended July with a fifth straight win last night, this coming on the road in an extra-hostile Moda Center over the Portland Fire. Most of the hostility was directed at Fever star Sophie Cunningham and the booing she received is being applauded by at least one former NBA star.
Video from the Fever-Fire game picked up boos from the crowd when Cunningham pulled up for a three-point shot. Cunningham has been the subject of significant protest due to comments she's made opposing the presence of transgender athletes in women's sports.
Former NBA champion and No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut appeared to be on the side of the Portland crowd. Taking to X earlier today, he reposted a video of the booing a responded with a trio of raised fist emojis.
Naturally, the responses to Bogut's post were just as divisive as pretty much any other post discussing the issue of transgender athletes in women's sports: Those that support it praised him and those that oppose it rebuked him.
"Protecting no one from nothing," one user remarked.
"Sophie is the unashamed female energy we’ve needed for so long," wrote another.
"They gon start calling you Andrew Bigot," a third wrote.

Pro-Cunningham vs. Anti-Cunningham
A controversy erupted during the Seattle Storm's July 28, 2026, game against the Fever after two fans alleged they were confronted by Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton over signs supporting Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. According to the fans, Keaton approached them in the stands, criticized their display, and called them "(expletive) insane" during a heated exchange.
Cunningham's recent comments had already sparked protests outside Climate Pledge Arena and visible demonstrations both supporting and criticizing her position.
The confrontation quickly spread across social media, fueling another round of debate about fan expression, free speech, and the increasingly polarized atmosphere surrounding the WNBA.
