The MLB community is sending their thoughts and prayers to David Samson this week.
Samson, the former Miami Marlins president, disappeared from his "Nothing Personal" show in September because one of his daughters was seriously ill. Unfortunately, he announced this week that his daughter Kyra passed away at the young age of 28.
"Yesterday, my daughter, Kyra, passed away peacefully after a 9 month and 11 day fight against one of the cruelest diseases I’ve ever seen up close. She was diagnosed with Brain Cancer, specifically Glioblastoma. I have felt all of your concern and love for these months and wasn’t ready to be anymore specific than I was," Samson wrote on social media.
"Kyra was a 28-year-old young woman who loved deeply and who is impossible to describe in 280 characters. While her life got stolen from her, she handled these months with courage, poise, and resolve. And all I want is for no family to feel what we feel today. For no young person to suffer the way she did. In lieu of flowers, if you are moved to make a memorial gift, please consider "The Kyra Fund." This fund will be used solely to research treatments for Glioblastomas."
An impact that'll last forever.
Kyra was described as "an exemplary listener" who can also carry conversations.
"Kyra gathered friends together, brought warmth and honesty into every conversation, and turned ordinary evenings into memories that will last forever," the description for her fund states. "Between insisting on sitting on the classroom floor in seventh grade Spanish because it apparently helped her concentrate or believing she was somehow connected to Abraham Lincoln as a relative or former spouse, Kyra saw the world through her own unique lens and those around her will always be better for it."
As of this writing, "The Kyra Fund" has already raised over $120,000.
Our thoughts are with the Samson family and all of Kyra's friends.
