Megan McConnell’s WNBA career has been put on hold. After being cut by the Indiana Fever ahead of the 2026 season, she took her talents abroad to play in Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League. McConnell posted a career update on Wednesday.
McConnell enjoyed a strong collegiate career with the Duquesne Dukes from 2020 to 2025. She went undrafted last year but received a training camp invite from the Phoenix Mercury.
The 5-foot-7 guard was initially waived after training camp but returned to Phoenix in June. In her WNBA debut, McConnell recorded three points and three assists in only 13 minutes. However, she suffered a tibial plateau fracture and the team waived her in June 2025.
After playing a season in the WNBL, McConnell signed a training camp contract with the Fever ahead of the 2026 season. She made three preseason appearances, but was eventually waived before the start of the campaign.
The 24-year-old returned to Australia and now plays for the University of Canberra Capitals. She posted five photos from their recent game.
“Fun day on the job,” McConnell wrote.
McConnell went off in Canberra’s season-opening win against her former team, the Bendigo Spirit. She finished with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and three triples in 33 minutes of action.
McConnell has a chance to further improve her game and potentially return to the WNBA. It won’t be easy given the influx of talent joining the draft each year, but she has the experience and grit. The WNBL is also known for its fast-paced games, similar to many WNBA teams’ playing style.
The Pittsburgh native was a standout at the collegiate level, particularly in her senior year with Duquesne. She averaged 18.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 4.1 steals per game. McConnell, the sister of Indiana Pacers guard TJ McConnell, earned Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors that year.
