A former ESPN host is accusing Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever of “stat-padding.”
Cindy Brunson, a former ESPN anchor, doesn’t appear to be the biggest fan of Clark and the Indiana Fever. Clark had a huge game on Sunday night. She scored 37 points and dished out 10 assists in a blowout win over the Chicago Sky.
However, while it was a dominant performance, Brunson doesn’t appear to be the biggest fan. She’s accusing Clark and the Indiana Fever of “stat-padding” during the blowout contest.
“Miss me with that stat padding 37 points, on the floor up 20 w/ a minute to go BS. The 32 points in just 26 minutes was WAY more impressive from the ⭐ on the playoff team from the lone star state,” Brunson posted above a story about Seattle’s game against Dallas – a game in which Clark did not play.
Brunson later deleted the post, claiming it prompted “racist” and “transphobic” comments on social media.
Brunson continued with her shots at Clark on social media
She claimed that Clark’s triple-double numbers are a “small sample size.”
“Small sample size for sure but it’s akin to AT’s triple-double numbers compared to the field, just dominant,” she wrote.
Of course, the “small sample size” only makes it more impressive, right?
“So doing something better in less than 3 seasons than the entire league over the course of 30 years is a ‘small sample size.’ Pretty clear who you hate,” one fan wrote.
Brunson replied: “Small sample size only meant total number of games played by comparison to AT in a longer career.”
She continued: “Adam the small sample size is the number of games CC has played compared to AT. They both dominate a unique statistical category, 30-10 for Clark & triple-doubles for AT. It was a compliment to say Clark is creating a gap like Alyssa Thomas when it’s their numbers vs the field.”
Clark and the Fever, meanwhile, continue to play well heading into the postseason, which starts this fall.
