Kaidon Salter's path to professional football is taking a different direction than most expected, and it's leading north of the border.
The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback went unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft despite generating real interest heading into the process. He picked up a rookie minicamp invite from the Tennessee Titans, but that opportunity didn't turn into anything concrete.
On Monday, the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League announced they had signed Salter, who spent his final college season developing under Deion Sanders at Colorado.
Salter's Profile and What Scouts Saw
There was genuine buzz around Salter as scouts worked through a wide-open 2025 quarterback class. His dual-threat ability drew attention, a combination of arm strength and athleticism that created problems for defenses in different ways.
At his pro day in March 2026, he ran a 4.65-second forty-yard dash, posted a 7.23-second three-cone drill, a 4.26-second shuttle, a 35.5-inch vertical jump and a ten-foot six-inch broad jump.
The concerns that followed him were real, too. Questions about his ability to consistently work through progressions from the pocket and hold up against stronger competition were a recurring theme in deeper evaluations.
Most projections had him fitting best in a spread system built around movement, rollouts, run-pass options and space-driven concepts, with long-term upside tied directly to growth as a passer.

Salter's College Career at Liberty and Colorado
Salter built his college foundation at Liberty Flames between 2021 and 2024, appearing in 35 games and taking over as the full-time starter in his sophomore year. That season, he earned Hero Sports G5 National Player of the Year honors.
For his senior campaign, he transferred to Colorado, playing in nine games and completing 127-of-204 passes for 1,404 yards and ten touchdowns. He also carried the ball 103 times for 356 yards and five scores on the ground.
What His Signing Means for the BC Lions
The BC Lions enter 2026 with four quarterbacks on their roster - Nathan Rourke, Chase Brice, Thomas Rittenhouse and Salter. Beyond the quarterback room, the Lions have been active across the roster.
They used a first-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft on North Dakota receiver Nate DeMontagnac, who joins an existing group that includes Justin McInnis and Jevon Cottoy. Defensively, the front office added lineman Casey Sayles and linebacker Darnell Sankey.
It has been a busy offseason in Vancouver. For Salter, this is the opportunity he needed, a chance to play professional football and prove the doubters had it wrong.
