After bouncing around the NFL from 2014-2021, McCarron spent time in the United Football League. By December 2025, he was named the head coach of the Birmingham Stallions. He finished his 2026 campaign with a 4-6 record.

New chapter for A.J. McCarron.
McCarron, 36, is hoping he’ll have far more success with Rhode Island than he did with Birmingham.
“New England fans are some of the most passionate fans in all of sports, and that passion is something I’m really excited to experience firsthand,” said McCarron. “Rhode Island has a proud sports culture and a fan base that appreciates teams that give everything they have every time they step on the field. I’m excited to bring this group to Rhode Island, rally this community around its new team and give these fans a team they can be proud to call their own.”
It’s important to note that McCarron will have the 2026 Stallions roster by his side.
