Football World Shocked By Colorado Quarterback's Death At 23

The college football world is mourning the sudden death of a Colorado Buffaloes quarterback at 23 years old.

Dominiq Ponder, a third-year quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes, has died. He was just 23 years old. Ponder, a transfer from Bethune-Cookman and Georgia Tech, was killed in a car accident.

"The University of Colorado Athletic Department is heartbroken over the loss of Dominiq Ponder, who passed away tragically in a car accident early Sunday morning. Ponder, a junior from Miami and Naples, Florida, was entering his third season as a quarterback for the Buffaloes," the school announced.

"He played in two games during the 2025 season and made his collegiate debut against Arizona. Ponder came to Colorado as a transfer from Bethune-Cookman and then Georgia Tech and redshirted his first season at CU."

Deion Sanders is deeply saddened.

"God, please comfort the entire Ponder family during this difficult time," said Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders. "Dominiq was one of my favorites because of his passion, his heart and his willingness to go beyond what was asked. He will certainly be remembered, missed, and in our thoughts and prayers."

The college football world is understandably stunned and shocked by his sudden passing on Monday.

Tributes for Ponder are pouring in online

"Praying for Dominiq and his entire family…may the Lord surround those who loved him with peace and comfort during this time of loss. 🕊️ 🙏🏼," one fan wrote.

"We are devastated by the loss of fellow student-athlete Dominiq Ponder. Our entire women’s basketball family stands in support of our football program, the Ponder family, and the CU community during this incredibly difficult time," Colorado women's basketball wrote.

"What a terribly sad deal," one fan added.

"My condolences and prayers for Dominiq’s family," one fan added.

"Forever a buffalo. Rest in peace Dom. My deepest condolences to his family and we will carry on his honor in everything we do," one fan added.

"Very tragic. Thoughts and prayers to his family and the Colorado football program," one fan added.
