Since taking over as the Florida Gators' head coach, Jon Sumrall has put a great deal of focus into high school recruiting. Taking over a program that went just 4-8 last season and has had just one winning season over the past five years, he has his work cut out for him.
While much of the focus remains on the 2027 recruiting class, Sumrall and his staff are keeping an eye on even further in the future. On March 31, class of 2028 quarterback Knox Annis announced a scholarship offer from the Gators.
He put up impressive production in his sophomore season at Mandarin High School. He completed 112-of-186 passes for 2,203 yards, 22 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 118.6 quarterback rating.

Since receiving his offer, Annis and Florida have continued to show mutual interest. He's already gotten a closer look at the program, making his way to Gainesville for two unofficial visits on Sept. 6 and Jan. 24.
However, the Gators weren't the only team making a push. The signal caller also held offers from the Miami Hurricanes, Auburn Tigers, Boston College Eagles and Maryland Terrapins. He'd also taken three unofficial visits with Miami.
Unfortunately for Sumrall and his staff, they couldn't come out on top. On Thursday, Rivals' Hayes Fawcett reported that Annis has committed to the Hurricanes.
It's an exciting addition for Miami. Rivals Industry Rankings list Annis as a three-star recruit, the No. 47 quarterback and the No. 466 player in the nation. He is the first player the Hurricanes have landed in the 2028 cycle.
Meanwhile, the Gators are still searching for their first addition. Florida has offers out to several talented quarterbacks, including four-star Kingston Preyear, four-star Neimann Lawrence and four-star Tristin Gaines.
