The Texas Tech Raiders‘ recruiting rise has become one of the biggest storylines in college football, with Joey McGuire’s program continuing to stack elite talent beyond the upcoming season.

The Red Raiders boast a top-10 2027 recruiting class in 247Sports’ Composite rankings, led by No. 1 overall prospect Jalen Brewster, and have continued to build momentum after landing multiple five-star recruits in recent cycles.

According to ESPN’s Eli Lederman, the Red Raiders are far from done, with program intending to remain aggressive as it wraps up the 2027 class and turns its attention toward 2028.

That approach paid off again this week when another nationally coveted prospect made his college decision on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Orange Lutheran offensive tackle Austin Attalah announced on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he is committing to Texas Tech, choosing the Red Raiders over fellow finalists Texas and USC after months of national recruiting attention.

“It was a long process of thinking and getting with my family, and just trying to see where I wanted to go and what fits the best,” Attalah said. “With that being said, I’m committing to Texas Tech.”

The 6-foot-7, 270-pound lineman is regarded as one of the premier offensive tackles in the 2028 class, and a five-star recruit in 247Sports’ Composite.

Attalah is ranked among the nation’s top offensive linemen across all major recruiting services and he’s considered one of California’s top overall recruits, having landed offers from programs including Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oregon.

Attalah pointed to the relationships built during the recruiting process as the major reason for his final decision to join the Big 12’s Red Raiders.

“Since I took a visit there, I really hit it off with the coaching staff,” Attalah said. “I do have family outside of Lubbock and just want to be by them so that they can go to all my games.”

Attalah’s commitment gives Texas Tech another marquee recruiting win as the Red Raiders continue adding nationally recognized talent, highlighted by the commitment of Brewster, the nation’s No. 1 overall player in the 2027 class.
