Brian Kelly will not be patrolling a college football sideline this fall, but the former LSU and Notre Dame head coach will still have plenty to say about what happens on Saturdays.
SiriusXM announced Thursday that Kelly is joining its College Sports Radio lineup for the 2026 season. Kelly will appear alongside Danny Kanell and Roy Philpott for a weekly show beginning Sept. 1.
The show will air Wednesdays at 7 a.m. ET throughout the college football season.
It represents the latest move into broadcasting for Kelly after LSU fired him during the 2025 season. Instead of disappearing from the college football spotlight, the 64-year-old coach has quickly assembled a growing media schedule.
“I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned in my many years on the sidelines into the studio with the outstanding team at SiriusXM,” Kelly said in the announcement, via Awful Announcing.

Kelly certainly has plenty of experience to bring to the microphone.
His coaching career included stops at Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Notre Dame and LSU. Kelly won consecutive Division II national championships at Grand Valley State and later transformed Cincinnati into a national contender before taking over at Notre Dame.
Kelly spent 12 seasons at Notre Dame, leading the Fighting Irish to the BCS National Championship Game following the 2012 season and College Football Playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020. He left Notre Dame for LSU after the 2021 regular season.
Now he will get to analyze coaches attempting to do the same job he held for decades.
“Danny and Roy are two pros with great energy and a passion for the game that I share,” Kelly said. “I look forward to partnering with them every week to give fans an insider’s view of today’s game and the teams and players we’re watching every week.”
Kanell and Philpott already host on SiriusXM College Sports Radio from 6-9 a.m. ET on weekdays. Kelly will join them for the Wednesday edition.
The SiriusXM position isn’t Kelly’s only broadcasting job.
Kelly Isn’t Leaving College Football Behind
CBS Sports previously hired Kelly for the 2026 season. He is scheduled to make his game analyst debut Saturday during CBS Sports Network’s Jacksonville State-North Dakota State broadcast and will also work as a studio analyst on “Inside College Football.”
That makes 2026 a dramatic change for Kelly.
According to Awful Announcing, this will be the first season in 22 years in which Kelly isn’t serving as an FBS head coach. His LSU tenure ended last November, with Kelly reportedly receiving a $54 million buyout.
Kelly’s agreement also requires him to make an effort to find employment in coaching or media to offset LSU’s financial obligation, according to Awful Announcing. He has now done exactly that with roles at CBS Sports and SiriusXM.
The bigger question is what comes next.
Kelly has previously expressed interest in getting back to building successful college football programs, suggesting his broadcasting career might not mean his coaching career is finished.
For at least one season, though, college football fans won’t have to wonder what Kelly thinks about the biggest games and storylines around the country.
They’ll simply be able to turn on the radio or television and hear it from him.
