The Indianapolis Colts last season finished with an 8-9 record. They have not made the playoffs since 2020 and someway somehow, general manager Chris Ballard is still employed by this franchise.
With free agency opening on Monday, Ballard decided to make another crazy move. He decided to sign wide receiver Alec Pierce to a four-year, $116 million deal. Pierce last season caught 47 passes for 1,003 yards receiving and six touchdowns, along with averaging 21.3 yards per reception. He was targeted 84 times.
Pierce is only 25 years old. Indianapolis does lock up one its wide receivers for the long-term, but is he really a number one wide receiver, however? There are a lot of Colts fans who are not thrilled with this overpay.

There are a lot of Colts fans who are very annoyed that Ballard is still the general manager of this football team. After signing Pierce to that contract, the fanbase continues to feel the urge to tweet about firing the general manager.
One fan said, "Holy fire Chris Ballard hahahaha" It is not surprising at this point that they want to see him fired.
Another fan said, "Dumb move for him to stay in Indy. You ain’t winning nothing with Chris Ballard at the helm unfortunately. Such a dysfunctional and non accountable franchise, probably why he stayed. No consequences to anything you do wrong there." This is the correct take by this fan. They haven't done much of anything with him in the front office.
It is still surprising that Ballard is in the front office for Indianapolis. He should be on the hot seat for this team and so should head coach Shane Steichen.
Another Colts fan added, "Well, when Chris Ballard is the GM and the seat is warming up, anything is possible." Indianapolis fans feel like this Pierce overpay was a desperation move. They don't have a 2026 NFL Draft pick in the first round because of the Sauce Gardner trade with the New York Jets. It is still mind boggling that Ballard continues to make bad decisions in the front office for the Colts here.
