Final Mavericks-Grizzlies Injury Report: Will Cooper Flagg, Klay Thompson Play?

To say things have been disastrous for the Dallas Mavericks over the last two seasons would be an understatement.

They shipped off Luka Doncic, who was universally considered to be their franchise player, to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis in a risky win-now move.

Fast forward a year later and Davis is now with the Washington Wizards after Dallas essentially conceded that the trade was a failure.

The Mavericks lucked out in the NBA Draft lottery, receiving the No. 1 pick and taking Cooper Flagg, but the season still hasn’t gone according to plan.

The star rookie is having a stellar campaign, but the team is just 21-36, while he has missed the last five games.

Dallas takes on the Memphis Grizzlies tonight, who have also been decimated by injuries, which has become a yearly occurrence for them.

Star point guard Ja Morant has been out for more than a month, while the rest of his teammates continue to drop like flies around him.

With no notable, new additions to the injury report for Memphis, let’s take a look at whether Flagg will be available for the matchup.

Still just a teenager, Flagg dealt with his share of early-season struggles. He was wildly inconsistent to begin his rookie year, but he’s rallied to become one of the best first-year players in recent memory.

Currently averaging more than 20 points, six rebounds and four assists per game, it looks like Dallas has a future all-around superstar on their hands.

But they are unfortunately still awaiting his return to the lineup after he was ruled out for tonight’s game.

With the Mavericks on the second night of a back-to-back, they were a little behind schedule getting out an initial injury report.

The official release brings more bad news, with veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson being listed as doubtful, meaning he likely won’t suit up either.

While Dallas has likely accepted the fact that they won’t contend for a playoff spot this season, it’s still disheartening for them to lose another opportunity for this roster to gain some chemistry heading into next season.

This article will be updated if anything changes with Thompson’s availability, but as of now it looks like the Mavericks will be doing battle without him or Flagg.
