Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers has been impressive in her FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup debut. The Team USA guard is averaging 10.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists in their first three games.
The Americans faced the Czech Republic on Monday in their final group phase game. They dominated their opponent, winning 105-64.
Bueckers chipped in 10 points to go along with two blocks and five assists. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year has been a consistent contributor off the bench for Team USA.
At one point during their game against the Czech Republic, the ball got stuck in the rim. Bueckers took matters into her own hands and freed the ball.
The 6-foot guard ran up and poked the ball loose, drawing cheers from the crowd in attendance. FIBA posted the video on social media, along with its reaction to what Bueckers did at the World Cup.
“And she literally told us 2 days ago she can grab it 😂” FIBA posted on Instagram, referencing a hilarious Bueckers moment during Team USA practice.
Team USA will now wait for its quarterfinal opponent. Hungary and Japan are the two teams vying for a spot to face the Americans in the next round.
USA has won the last four editions of the FIBA Women’s World Cup. If everything goes according to plan, they will return to home soil with their fifth straight gold medal.
Team USA expects Bueckers to remain a reliable contributor on both ends of the floor as it inches closer to another world championship.
