FIBA asked fans on Tuesday to start voting for the FIBA World Cup MVP. The social media post came amid Caitlin Clark’s bid to win the coveted award. The Indiana Fever superstar has helped lead Team USA to a 3-0 record in the group phase and into the quarterfinals.
Clark started the tournament with a historic performance against China on Friday. She finished the matchup with 14 points and 11 assists, which is the most for any USA player in the World Cup in 28 years.
However, Clark failed to build on the momentum and struggled against Italy two days later. She recorded just one point on 0-for-6 shooting, including 0-of-3 from beyond the arc. The 24-year-old regained her form in the 105-64 win over Czechia on Monday, producing nine points and seven assists.
FIBA made its request to fans on Tuesday via a post on X.
“VOTE FOR YOUR TISSOT MVP AND GET A CHANCE TO WIN THE OFFICIAL WOMEN’S WORLD CUP SPECIAL EDITION WATCH!” FIBA wrote.
Clark stands front and center in the graphic. She entered the World Cup ranked No. 4 in the pre-tournament MVP rankings. Her bid took a major hit after a rare off night on Sunday against Italy.
The top three pre-tournament MVP favorites were USA’s Breanna Stewart, followed by France’s Gabby Williams and Belgium’s Emma Meesseman.
Fans can vote for their MVP pick on FIBA’s website.
Team USA plays next on Thursday as they face Belgium in a single-elimination quarterfinal matchup.
Clark is on a mission to help the national team advance to the gold medal game on Sunday and win its fifth straight world championship.
