Marine Johannes is leading France in scoring at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
France has now punched its ticket to the quarterfinals of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany, after a dominant win against South Korea, 95-69, on Saturday.
Spearheading the French national team’s offense is Johannes, who finished with a game-high 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown, along with three boards, two assists and one steal.
Johannes’ hot hand spells trouble for other nations in the tournament, and FIBA declared the “bad news” in a recent social media post that compiled her game highlights.
“Bad news for the rest of the World Cup. MJ IS LOCKED IN,” the caption read.
The New York Liberty guard also racked up 17 points and four triples in their win against Hungary in France’s tournament opener.
Johannes and Co. are now sitting atop Group B at 2-0. They will play Nigeria in their final game of the group stage on Monday.
The 31-year-old is also a solid contributor for the Liberty this season, averaging 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 42% shooting from the field.
Her production helped the Liberty secure a spot in the playoffs, and they are currently sixth in the league standings with a 24-16 win-loss record.
Johannes has also won two WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championships with the Liberty in 2023 and 2026.
