Team USA dominated Czechia 105-64 in its final group phase game of the FIBA World Cup on Monday. Breanna Stewart led the way for the Americans, and FIBA announced after the win that she had been selected as the Player of the Game.
The New York Liberty star finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 17 minutes of playing time. She shot 8-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-1 from beyond the arc.
Angel Reese backed her with 13 points and six rebounds, while Jackie Young and Napheesa Collier contributed 12 points each. Paige Bueckers and Sonia Citron added 10 apiece, and Caitlin Clark chipped in nine points and seven assists. All 12 USA players scored against Czechia.
FIBA posted Stewart’s highlights from Monday’s matchup along with her stats. The international governing body of basketball announced its decision to name Stewart as the best player of the game on social media.
“Captain Stewie delivers as USA complete the #FIBAWWC Group Phase with a perfect record: 19 PTS, 7 REB, 6 AST,” FIBA wrote.
Team USA now awaits the winner of the Hungary-Japan game on Tuesday. The Americans will face either of these two nations in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The team that emerges victorious in that game will proceed to take on either Spain, Italy or Australia.
Stewart has been one of Team USA’s most consistent contributors in the tournament. She registered five points and 11 rebounds versus Italy on Sunday after her seven-point, seven-rebound performance against China two days earlier.
The Americans are aiming to win their fifth straight world championship. They are the heavy favorites to lift the trophy again this year.
